Q: How do I play .m4v videos on my 3rd generation iPod Touch?

I have a series of .m4v video files downloaded into my 3rd generation iPod Touch, model MC086LL, running version 4.2.1 (8C148) iOS (the latest verision I can update to). However, the videos are not visible to the videos App, or anyother app in my player. Is there another app out there that will play .m4v format on this device?

Likely the the "resolution" is not compatible with the 3G iPod. The 3G can only play SD video. You may have to convert the format. Se:
iTunes: Frequently asked questions about viewing and syncing videos
iTunes: May be unable to transfer videos to iPhone, iPad, or iPod
HandBrake is a good, free conversion program
