DVD playing with airplay shows a check board in computer and apple TV monitor

When trying to set up to play a dvd on the computer and then airplay via apple tv to my TV I get a dysplay checkboard in the computer screen and tv as well when I decrease the size or increase to full screen momentarly the dysplay shows the movie for a second the check board
