i have mac mini mc438hn/a it is having two drives of 500gb each, i m not able to open the other drive in the disk utility !! what should i do??it is not getting repaired in the disk utility

Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partition & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions.
Oh, does it show up in DU at all?
i tried it but failed!!!!!any other solution for formatting the drive without using the diskutility
