It does change the name in the Print dialog box, but it does not change it in the "shared" section of finder where all the printers that are networked are listed. They still show epson7873bq or whatever in finder - so if I'm wondering whether a printer up two flights of stairs is on or not, I can't really tell for sure.
I do have one printer that is showing a descriptive name - one that I installed several years ago when the first wifi printers came out, but I can't see how to do that in Mtn Lion...

Mar 25, 2013 4:49 PM in response to Thomas O'Connellby Barney-15E,The name in the Sidebar is the Bonjour name. My epson printer has a web setup page where I can change that. I'm not sure how to change it, but that is what you need to change.
