You could disable it under restrictions, or you could deploy an IPCU profile to the device, though I think you should be fully forthright with your security person. Since you will be applying the restrictions, you could just as easily remove them if you chose. On the other hand your organization could also deploy an IPCU profile disabling the Camera on your device.

I agree when it comes to Enterprise resources and accessing the employer's network, however the OP is just talking about a restriction on the camera, not accessing the network.

Again, I think you and I are looking at apples and oranges. If the OP is talking about the access you are suggesting, then compliance with security and access to the personal device is necessary. However, I was just referring to a restriction to the camera and not allowing the employer access to a personal device to deploy a profile for the sole purpose of camera restriction.

Thank you for a different perspective.

The only way for them to deploy a profile on his device is if the device belongs to the company. I'm not so certain that I would allow my employer the access to deploy a profile on my personal phone. I agree if he is the one putting the restriction on he can remove it just as easily, but the other option is to leave the phone in the car in the parking lot, or get a burn phone he can put his SIM card in while at work so there is no camera on the device, but he can still receive phone calls.

Chris not to disagree with your main point, but we deploy IPCU profiles on our BYOD phones....and have done so on hundreds of them. I agree that that can give the company way more control of a personal device than you necessarily want. 😉 Our position on the BYOD phones is that if they want access to Enterprise resources, they need to conform to our security policies.
