I have a Late 2011 15" MBP that somehow the main computer name is listed as SFL40. I've tried to change it and in the sharing applet is states Use SFL40 or The Name I Want To Use to connect to this Mac. I've tried the terminal command and it still won't change.
Anyone have any suggestions?

System Preferences>Sharing.
Change it there.
If you want to change the Bonjour name, click the Edit button in the Sharing preference pane.
Thanks for the replies. I figured out what it is. It is something on my Work LAN. When I brought the system home that SFL40 name changed ta a IP address. So it was something on the Work LAN that was assigning a name instead of an IP.
Yeah I'm the OP. I created a second account to check out the problem with notifications I was having with this account.
