does an external hard drive automatically put different computers data apart

just took all data off one imac onto a hard drive using time machine and now i want to put some data on from another imac using time machine


will the hard drive keep the data seperate as i need to put all data took off first imac back on it at some point but dont want my stuff going on it as well so when i open my time machine to back up will it keep the two seperate?

iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.8), external hard drives

You can back up two computers with Time Machine onto the same external drive without any problem. Time Machine will create a different folder for each computer, so their backups won't have conflicts
