server same as mountain lion

Hi I have a mac book pro 15 inch running mountain lion.

I am wanting to learn the server edition for my own interest.

Can I download server and install over the top of my macbook pro.

What are the adavantages/disadvantages.

Will I loose any emails/work.

ARe there any programs that wont work on server that do on a mac.

Can I revert back if I find its not for me.

OS X Mountain Lion Server is just OS X Mountain Lion but with the Server app. You won't lose anything and the system will be exactly the same, but now, with the Server app to manage the server features of OS X, which you added after installing OS X Server from the App Store. All the apps that works on OS X Mountain Lion will work on OS X Mountain Lion Server
