(it applies to Win 8 too)

New cable and different USB port?

Runs this and see if the results help with determine the cause

Try on another computer to help determine if computer or iPod problem

that totally happened to me too... i just removed itunes & reinstalled the latest version of itunes into my microsoft PC & it worked!
