I´ve got a designed letterhead that I´d like to lock so that the template cannot be changed or altered but so that a text and address etc. can be inserted. If I save as a template, the framework can be altered, as with the sample letter templates that come with Pages. Can I lock my design template, leaving spaces to insert text?
iPhone 4, Mac OS X (10.7.2)
Select the text box.
Arrange > Send to Backgound.
Arrange > Lock.
Arrange > deselect Make background objects selectable.
Page Setup > set top margin to 4 cm.
Hope this helps to prevent all but the most Pages-savvy idiots..

Hi paravil,
Insert a text box and type your letterhead into it. Format it with a border (if you wish) as I have. Make sure it is Floating and move it to where you want it. Then Menu > Arrange > Lock. The small x marks show it is locked.

When you save as a template, you are saving the framework. If you open that template, a new document is created that you can alter. The template is not altered unless you save the changed document as a templte with the same name. That will replace the previous template.
Changing (and saving) a document will save only the document, and will not affect the template.

Yes. Thanks for answering. But what I need is for the template to be fixed so that it can´t be altered, even as a copy. Just like previosly printed business letter paper. Is this possible?
You could export (Print) the "preprinted" part as a pdf, then place that pdf as a background object, lock it and make background objects unselectable, and put text boxes to insert the new text, and save that as a template, but it would probably be a little awkward to work with, and a clever user could still undo the unselectable and locked settings and delete the background, or put something in front of it.

Create a letter template where the top margin leaves space for the letterhead when printing onto your notepaper.
I am sure that some idiot will find a way to stuff that up as well.

You can always make the basic letterhead, save it as a pdf file and reimport it into your layout as a background locked Master Object.
Given the number of people who come on here and can't figure out to get at those, that would probably be safe. Particularly if its boundaries coincide with the page's and make it hard to spot.

I´ve tried that, but the idiots can still move the box around the page. And I´m finding the pdf method too much trouble. Thik I´ll just have to change over to printed notepaper.
