When I put my iphone contacts into groups and then sync with my macbook air (using either Firefox or Google Chrome) the "groups" disappear and show only the entire list of contacts. How do I change that - what button to push, setting to change, etc?
I have an iPhone 4 with updated IOS.

Do you want to sync the groups from google to your phone? If so - that isn't possible yet. It will only sync over every contact in the "My Contacts" group.

Actually, just the opposite. I set the groups in my iPhone, but the groups don't "translate" to my google list, where I need it most.
How did you setup groups on your phone? Do you have an app for that? The only way I've ever known to do that is to use iCloud and set it up on the website which would sync to the phone.
If you are using CardDav to sync your Google contacts - as pdroth said - this isn't yet possible though, according to Google, it's somehing they are looking in to. See here: http://www.jibbigo.com/website/support/need-help
OK, i have to admit you are talking to a "dummy!" and a 70 yr old who is trying to use technology beyond my ability.
I set up the groups in my contacts in Firefox, but when I synced - before iCloud - the contacts went to my iphone as just individual names,(and no groups at all) but I WANTED the groups on my phone for when I travel, to make it easier to find folks. I have only about 180 contacts in all.
This is all a help to me. Mainly to see that I am going "backassards" to do what I want to do. Thanks for the link and the fact that google is trying to help.
I would say if you want Groups of contacts on your phone then do it in iCloud.
