Mac Pro freezing since 10.8

I have seen all of the other threads. I have tried everything recommended in them, from PRAM resets, to removing the prefs.plist.

Erased the dedicated HD that holds boot + Apps, reinstalled 10.8.3 freshly dowloaded, clean install from square 1 on a reformatted drive. Running the machine with no apps except system level plus Mail plus Safari, I still got system hangs. For no reason the finder becomes mostly unresponsive. Dock won't work, beachball, can't force quit.

So, since I wasted my time and needed to get back to earning a living as a self employed person, I re loaded all software fresh from fresh downloads and have been putting up with the random lockups and freezes.

It seems, maybe, Mail is to blame. Happens when I'm running mail, accessing mail, pointing to mail on the dock.

I've run hardware tests, removed the other 3 internal HD's, removed the two BDR burners, dug up and installed the old few-gigs of ram that were original to the machine ... no luck.

If there is anything new that I've missed, I'm grateful for your input. If anyone is listening, there is an issue as evidenced by the many threads and responses.

I'm sorry I ever left 10.7.3, which is humming along nicely on my Mack Book pro and an iMac.

The next time you have the problem, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.

If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:

☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

☞ In the Finder, select Go Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.

Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select

View Show Log List

from the menu bar.

Scroll back in the log to the time you noted above. Select any messages timestamped from then until the end of the episode. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).

When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.

Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
