Sounds like you have a damaged iPhoto Library. Do you use time machine? What version of OS is this computer running? What version of iPhoto do you have?
USING 10.8.3 have iPhoto 9.4.2 and yes I use time machine, but it isn't up to date to recent libarary changes.
Yesterday the library told me it was damaged and repaired itself.. Will it do that if I open and close a few times?
Sounds like you may have a corrupt iPhoto Library.
Note - Apple does recommend you create a back up of your iPhoto Library, as a precautionary measure, before troubleshooting the iPhoto Library.
- quit iPhoto and all other open applications
- hold down your "option + command" keys on the keyboard, and keep them held down while launching iPhoto. This should launch iPhoto with a "first aid" screen over top of it. Do each of these first aid steps, one at a time, until you have completed all the steps.
OKAY backing up now to Time Machine.. Then will do as above.. Let you know how it goes, thanks so much.
I am leery of Time Machine, haven't used much to reinstall. I have room on my hard disk can I copy current iPhoto there?
Most Simple Back Up
Drag the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to another Disk. This will make a copy on that disk.
Slightly more complex:
Use an app that will do incremental back ups. This is a very good way to work. The first time you run the back up the app will make a complete copy of the Library. Thereafter it will update the back up with the changes you have made. That makes subsequent back ups much faster. Many of these apps also have scheduling capabilities: So set it up and it will do the back up automatically. Examples of such apps: Chronosync or DejaVu . But are many others. Search on MacUpdate

Yes - for this that is a smart idea - just select the iPhoto library and duplicate it

THANKS TO ALL. That worked! The Repair box told me to fix the first item only. and now does not open to show any others needs doing!
Now I have a 'duplicate' iPhoto... @ Terence Now I will look up an auto sync, as I say I do certainly have room on this hard disk. Which do you recommend?
While for this purpose (a very short term temporary backup) a duplicate on the same disk will work - to protect your photos (and other files) from hardware, software and user failure you must have an external hard drive and your backup must be on it - making a copy on the same hard drive does not protect against hardware failures - it is pretty fair protection against user and software failures

Just a note. In addition to possibly 'corrupt' I now realize that iPhoto is spending time very very slowly downloading pics from my iPhone ! Then it checks everything for faces even though I don't ever want that oh well!
