Ti-89 titanium

Hello fellow apple users. I have a question regarding my ti-89 calculator. Every time I try to connect it to my macbook pro, nothing happens. Before I connected my calculator to my mac for the first time, i installed the ti-connect software for mac. There is no icon on the desktop when i connect my calculator to my mac. I've also tried to connect an external drive to my usb ports before, and that worked fine. Anyone who knows how I can solve this problem?
