Today I noticed my computer was running slowly so I decided maybe it needed a reboot as I had kept it on for a couple of days. When I turned it back on it only went to a white screen with a folder flashing on and off with a question mark can someone tell me what this is?

and if I did all of that and nothing worked what does that mean?
Did you reinstall OS X, which is the last step in the note? That's not normally required to repoint the system to your startup hard drive, however. And if you did that and it still doesn't work, then take it into Apple for hands-on advice.
to be honest I have no idea what I just did but it is now installing mac os x, I would assume I have lost all my files which is not the end of the world but if whatever it is doing works I have a second question...what caused my computer to freak out...I do nothing but watch movies...go on facebook and school work. I would love to know because I want to avoid this if it ever happens again as I clearly have no idea what I did to get it to atleast install

I was rather dissapointed in the actual apple phone line as it says 24 hour support but when you call they tell you its closed so it is nice to be able to come on here and have some help.

Sometimes, the system just loses it's mind on where the boot up volume is located. Usually, going into System Preferences and resetting it is all that's required.
