My ipod says disabled connect to itunes, but then it won't read because i have a passcode

My ipod says Disabled Connect to Itunes. So i connected to itunes and my ipod has a passcode on it, so it tells me to enter in the passcode and try again, but my ipod wont even let me enter in my passcode. What do I do?
