HP 6500A fails to scan. Scanner is seen by iMac but the scanner does not provide any scanned immage. The machine scans but no scan results. The scanner function is a disaster.
On top of that once in a while a message pops up that new HP software is available, than it comes back saying it is not.

Have you tried using Image Capture in the Applications folder. Maybe that'll provide a workaround.
Yep non of the scanning applications work I am now in a process to reinstall the HP. After Updates the drama returns everytime.

Did that too. I now reinstalled the printer and I can nnow scan through the Scan application using the driver software. Scanning a 300 DPI PDF format takes forever now!! Other standard scan application Lion don't work
I realise you shouldn't be having these problems, but If it continues you could take a look at VueScan - a paid for but great scanning app. Maybe that'll give a better scanning experience. You can run it in demo mode before purchase to see if it meets your needs.
OK now get this ........ It scanned ones and now now scan visable. The scnner works but does not produces anything. Driving me nuts!!!!
OK I finally rebooted the iMac. That resolved the issue. I have no clue why on earth HP hardware is causing these problems. And it is not new.
