finder freezes up

My finder window has been freezing up on a regular basis (5-6+ times a day). It has been happening for several months. The only change I can think of that may have effected my system is that I added 16 gb RAM a few months back. The specs indicate 16 gb max ram, and I added 16 to make 20gb total. Could this be the issue? Everything else is running beautifully...Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can try.
