Where can I find new icons for desktop items. And how do I change them?

There are a few ways to do this. You can go to a site like iconfactory Iconfactory : Home and download new icons; you can use software that will create icons for you MacUpdate: Search for 'icon' ; or you can make your own icons from scratch with an app like photoshop or pixelmator. I like making my own.
The way you change icons is via Get Info.
1. select the file or folder whose icon you want to change
2. do command I
3. do the same for the item that has the new icon that you want to transfer
4. Select the new icon in the left upper corner of the get info window, and do command C (copy)
5. Select the old icon in the get info widow, and do command V (paste).
