Syncing MBPro and iPad 2 over wifi

I have my iPad connected via USB to my MBPro and want to sync with WiFi. However, when I furn off iCloud so that I can do that, I loose all of my events in iCal on my MBPro. The only way I can restore them is to again activate iCloud.

How can I leave turn off iCloud and leave events on my MBPro and sync my iPad 2 and MBPro over WiFi?
