how do I show facetime on TV?

Hope this might help I use face time via my Apple TV ,double click on the home button and slide to the right and the airplay button is there and click on mirror.

No, you don't need an apple TV to mirror.

I believe most composite adapters are limited ot Video out capabilities of certain Apps, and so can't take advantage of mirroring. Facetime does not have actual Video out.

However if you have one of these:

You can use it to mirror the iPad's screen onto the TV, and as such have Facetime be seen on the TV.

This is of course assuming your Tv has an HDMI input.

That's what I use, and I can mirror just fine.
