Welcome to the Apple Support Communities

AirPlay Mirroring requires an Early 2011 or newer MacBook Pro so, unless you bought a second-hand computer, your computer is compatible with AirPlay Mirroring. However, AirPlay Mirroring requires OS X Mountain Lion.

To check what OS X version you have, open  > About this Mac, and check the version. If it's 10.8, you are already using OS X Mountain Lion. If it's 10.7, you are using OS X Lion, so you have two options:

    1. Open the App Store and purchase OS X Mountain Lion. Make a backup of your data before upgrading. When the Mountain Lion installer finishes downloading, it will show up, so follow the steps to upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion. After upgrading, you will see the AirPlay icon on the menu bar.

    2. Stay with Lion and use a third-party application as AirParrot > http://www.airparrot.com
