Use an MDM to put the device in supervisory mode. This mean you can only copy via USB to the device that put the device in supervisory mode.

See all the complaints by teachers with Supervised mode on their ipad:

There's nothing to do. iPads do not support copying information off of them thorugh USB.

The only thing that can be done is to copy Movies and photos from a USB drive to the iPad.

But there is no way to extract files from the ipad to USB.

If the iPad is connected to a computer, only the Camera Roll is directly accessible through a file browser such as Windows Explorer.

Any files contain within Apps on the iPad would require iTunes ot be installed and the Apple Id associatred with the iPad to be authorized on the computer.

I think I'm not explained well. I have an iPad 3 with confidential files.

If I connect the iPad 3 to a PC and run itools 2012, I can copy files without problems and that's what I want to avoid, is there any way to avoid this copy of files?

I want to prevent a user connect the iPad to a computer and copy the pictures and confidential files.

Ok, I'll explain as best as possible to see if you can help me....

My company wants to present a major project. We will use iPad tablets to present this project. There are a lot of important documents and images. There are people who will evaluate the project, they can see the project on the ipad but but can not easily copy. We want to keep this important project copied easily. If they want copy the project, they can use a photo camera and take pictures of the tablet page by page but this is not important for us....

I hope now you understand the reason that I want to disable usb access to the ipad. The reason is to prevent confidential data being copied easily.

Can you help me now? can I disable usb access to ipad? and if i can...., can I turn it back / enable again in the future? how? Completely restoring ipad?

Thanks a lot for your help :-)

I have a similar situation and am looking for a solution as well. I have a need to hand iPads (and passcode) to users. These have sensitive files on them and although I want the users to access them, I don't want them to be able to copy them off of the device.

The files are pdf's stored within Adobe Reader Mobile on the iPad. In my own tests, I have been able to connect to a separate computer that has iTunes installed. Although I cannot sync to this computer, I can use the Apps tab and scroll down to the Adobe app where I have the option to save a folder to this new PC.

This is what I'm trying to prevent. Any suggestions are welcome.

Thanks

Everyone seems to be dancing around this simple question. The NSA Device Mobility Program (http://www.nsa.gov/ia/programs/mobility_program/index.shtml) is charged to specify mobile device capabilities for federal government users who need to securely access government networks. The currently version of the capabilities states "The User Equipment shall be configured to allow the USB cable to be usedonlyto charge the device. " It goes on to say that the data communications capabilities of the USB must be disabled.

So the question is, can the USB port be disabled?

Thanks in advance.
