Mar 28, 2013 5:16 PM in response to dastoelkby BasementJack,I've been holding off on the purchase of Final Cut due to all the bad reviews. I am VERY happy to see the team is releasing updates for this, Motion and Compressor. It took far too long, hopefully we will see more frequent updates from here on out.

Mar 28, 2013 5:29 PM in response to BasementJackby BenB,You've been reading reviews by people who have no clue, then.
Go over to http://www.FCP.co and check it out.
https://www.macprovideo.com/hub/category/final-cut
It has been a great NLE from the beginning. Download the Free Trial version, take a course like the one at mPV. Learn it properly, judge for yourself.
More frequent updates? They've done infinitly more updates than Adobe and Avid and Grassvalley put together. Do you have any clue what it takes to work out and write all that code, much less figure out the concepts and ideas to start with?
FCP X is a GREAT NLE. Don't think so? Check out the "In Action" page.

Seriously, you've been reading reviews by armchair editors and not actually downloaded and learned it first hand?
My studio, and many others have been producing exclusively on it for almost three years now. What exactly took "far too long"?

Far too long for what? This is the eighth update, and the longest gap between updates was four months, and most were quite a bit shorter.

Thanks for your response and for the links - I'll check them out! And you're absolutely right - I've not used it.
The initial negative reviews didn't actually phase me as they were more complaints about the changed workflow. But later reviews about reliability had given me enough concern that I took a wait and see approach. My hesitancy was never on functionality, it was more a concern about stability.
I really appreciate the links and can't wait to learn more.

Mar 28, 2013 6:05 PM in response to Tom Wolskyby BasementJack,Hi Tom, thanks for chiming in.
It's great to see passionate users coming to FCP's defense and great to know that it's definately worth another look!
Specifically, I was really thinking of the bugs users complained about with v 10.0.0.7 I would have expected those to start being addressed within weeks.

Mar 28, 2013 6:09 PM in response to BasementJackby Tom Wolsky,As has been noted in a long thread here, most of the problem and it's solution was in the OS, and updating that was a much bigger mountain to shift with a lot more variables and moving parts.

Whatch think?
My updates all seem to work fine.
The .8 to FCP X asks to update existing Projects and mine so far are all good.
Make a coffee during the Motion update , it's a little over 1 gig.

If I were to rely on bad reviews, I would use NO software at all.
I UNDERSTAND FCPx... And those who supply bad reviews are relics NOT understanding this BRILLIANT software.....Basta.
It has quirks... And in some configs. performance problems. However, this software is next to pro tools... The most amazing experiences I have EVER had with any software..
Too bad, so many are regarding FPCx as an update to FCP7.. Which it is NOT... And THAT is where all the bad reviews are coming from... FPCx is NEW software NOTHING in common with FCP7.... Some say FCPx is iMovie Pro... (iMovie is a nice piece of consumer ware) and they have understood nothing about FPCx.... Which is IMO the second coming.....
To Apple Engineers.... It is CLEAR how much you care about this software... And within a few more years, you WILL have set a NEW standard for how folks are going to cut their flicks.... True genius... takes TIME.. But YOU are def. leading the way.... Thanks for enabling ME to think in new and intuitive ways ;-)

Mar 28, 2013 7:56 PM in response to Studio Engineerby dastoelk,Agreed. X is a totally new piece of software compared to 7. Not to mention how it adopts a whole new paradigm like "trackless editing." (Which, admittedly, at first glance, is a concept hard to wrap one's mind around, as we've had "tracks" going back to the days when we were editing tape-to-tape.)
Granted, Apple may have flubbed the product's initial launch, but that's a marketing issue, unrelated to the sofware itself.
FCPX is elegant. It works. As usual, Apple has its eye on where the puck is headed.I hear most gripes from FCP7 users who say, "Yeah. But, with FCP7 I could do 'such-and-such' THIS way. I can't do it that way with X!"
The answer is simple: "Well... This ISN'T FCP7!" So, let's move on.
