Kingston SSD Drive Carrier / Bracket - Agility 4
hi everyone! this is my first post ever (excuse me in advance for its lengthiness)
this morning i went to a store to pick up my ocz agility 4 and a kingston SSD driver carrier (see below).
15 mins later: my computer would't see the new ssd 😠
after a detour to another shop i knew that neither the kingston bracket nor my ssd were malfunctioning. the problem was (i quote freely): "the kingston bracket runs perfectly with a number of ssds and a vertex 3 (which the they tested on the spot), but not with the agility 4. controller wha wha incompatible wha. sorry."
back home i was frustrated and started fiddling around with the bracket. in the end i had the idea that the same tray that should connect the ssd with the interface in the bracket while you close that hatch could be the problem. so i bent some metal parts (the vertical one whose narrow top side you can see closest to the interface and one more you can't see) and then it worked. while this tray where you can put the ssd into is the right size it apparently is not putting all types of ssds into place, i.e. making a connection to the interface. (looots of general questions here...)
im pretty happy that it works now (very good in fact!!!).
but still - not being overly paranoid nor too much into this stuff - this does not seem to be a good (good as in: foot + shoe = (aaah) fits or car + gasoline = driving) solution.
here's my questions:
1) is there an alternative to this kingston bracket for a mac pro?
2) is there an altogether different way to get my ssd into place?
3) could there be a problem because of not perfectly locked into place connection? (system runs... i don't see sparks 🙂 interface damage etc?)
looking forward to some posts!
