Dual Monitors on a Macbook 2010

Hello

My name is Callum and i have recently been looking in to dual monitors for my designing. I have a normal MacBook mid 2010 version and i bought a mini display port to VGA cable and it doesn't fit anywhere in my Mac. Is that the right cable i should have bought?

You need an adapter. Your Apple store almost certainly carries it.
