I have an iPhone 3G with iOS 4.1 and want to update it to 4.2 but my iTunes window shows update available to be iOS 6.1.3.. How do I update my iOS??
I really need help.. My iTunes version is 11.2 I guess..

A 3g can go up to only 4.2.1.
A 3gs can go up to 6.1.3.

See I already have the latest version of iTunes.. The problem is that it shows that the update available is iOS 6.1 and I have an iPhone 3G .. So I want to know how do I update it to iOS 4.2?
Make sure your iPhone has not been hacked/jailbroken to unlock it before you do this.
Not helping.. Does iTunes show the updates that are compatible with your device or it shows any update available?
If it says the latest version available for you phone is 6.1.3, then you have a 3GS, not a 3G. Why are you complaining? You have a better phone than you thought you did...
You can ONLY update to the current version.
It shows the latest update that is available for your iPhone.

And Restore your device. But you must shift+restore. And choose this.

Ignore it. It's a link to an old version of iOS. You can not install it on your phone without forfeiting your ability to get support from Apple or on these forums.
The link is an .ipsw file. You can set-up iOS 4.2 directly.

Your lucky your phone supports most of the apps on the appstore. Other than the 3g which can only download a few.
