If I have an iPod 3rd generation then why can't I update to iOS 5?
I have an old iPod touch ( 3rd generation) that I wanted to update, but after spending so much time I found that it only updated to iOS 4.1. Please help me.

It sounds like may actually have a 2nd generation. Please check the model number on the back, if it is A1288, it is a 2nd generation and can not be upgraded beyond 4.2.1.
