Looks like no one’s replied in a while. To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question.

Why is there no Fax MODEM software for Mac OS X Mountain Lion? I want to be able to have more than basic sending capabilities. Like a fancy cover page and fax confirmation log and printout, etc.

First, I should say I DO NOT want to use (and pay for) a internet fax service. I want MAC software for my FAX modem.

I want the ability to create advanced cover sheets and print confirmation of fax pages. The very basic functionality most fax MODEM software packages provide. There appear to be none currently for the Mac as of this writing on March 28, 2013.

There are plenty of current fax software packages for Windows. Why are there no packages compatible with the latest Macs? Unbelieveable! Yes, I realize FAX is legacy technology, but there are plenty of businesses that stil use fax. Small tiny entities like the Government of the United States and various banks like Chase and Bank of America.

Very frustrating that the US Robotics modem that is certified compatible with the Mac only has Mac drivers available. The software package included with the modem is for Windows only and the web site has no downloads for the Mac other than the current drivers.

The developer that creates a Mac fax package will have a monopoly. Please!? 🙂

Thank you Allan. There was nothing in your response that was helpful. Attitude at altitude I guess. Bravo. 🙂

The detailed information provided in the post is to avoid getting answers I have already received... i.e. Check the US Robotics website. Who uses fax technology anymore? etc. etc. etc.

The purpose of this post on the Apple DISCUSSIONS forum is to find out if someone knows of any software that I have not been able to find... or to suggest that someone develop something.

Thanks,

-Gary

The fact that no fax software packages exist should tell you something. The market is not big enough to make any money. Simple law of supply and demand applies here. If the demand were big enough someone would write the software to take advantage of it.

Simplest solution for you then would be to run Windows on your Mac in a virtual machine or boot camp partition and use the plethora of fax software you claim exists. I'm trying to be snarky, just practical.

Gary,

I also find that I still need to send faxes, directly from the computer. There are numerous times that I am asked to fax, not email, a document.

Per the link from Cloy, it seems that nowadays the software is built into multifunction printers. I found my printer had a driver that let me fax directly from the Mac. If you don't have a multifunction printer, consider one.

Hope this helps,
Les

I just used the free software, requiring no login or sign-up to send a fax today, from faxzero.com

The whole process took about 3 minutes and that includes the time it took for the fax to actually be sent and for me to receive confirmation.

Perhaps this is the answer to your problem?

I see so the workaround / solution is not necessarily what you are looking for at this point. By chance, is your question rhetorical?

If not rhetorical, have you checked out: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3509 or made sure you have the proper Mac drivers for US Robotics Modem Model#5637 which can be found at: http://www.usr.com/support/product-template.asp?prod=5637.

If the above links do not help, and your question was not rhetorical, then please be more specific as to what you desire from the software. You mention that there are plenty of software solutions that operate within the Windows operating system. Would you provide a little more information (e.g. the name of the software package)? I find your issue and perhaps your stipulations pertaining to the solution interesting.

Cloy

About your solution (http://www.dummies.com/how-to/content/send-faxes-from-your-mac-with-mountain-lio n.html) Apple USB modem DOES NOT WORK with Lion or Mountain Lion, for lack of a 64-bit driver. Also to confirm that the US Robotics USR5637 no longer support it. -see all of one star reviews!

Gary

I know your first lines ¨First, I should say I DO NOT want to use (and pay for) a Internet fax service. I want MAC software for my FAX modem¨ I had your same problem and also your same position, but unfortunately the only solution I found was join a web fax service 😠😟

Gary,

I know EXACTLY what you are talking about. Many businesses still use fax machines. In the old days of 20 years ago there used to be some good quality fax apps for the Mac and some were Global Village Fax Center, FAXSTF, HotFax Message Center to name a few. However these days if you want to fax you need a online service or a real fax machine. That said it would apear the market for the Mac is not big enough for faxing as it once was.

I feel your pain so I suggest to get a fax machine. I know it ***** but I have to run to fax centers to send faxes everyknow and then.

Why is there no Fax MODEM software for Mac OS X Mountain Lion? I want to be able to have more than basic sending capabilities. Like a fancy cover page and fax confirmation log and printout, etc.
