Safari Blocked Plug-ins - Still!

I have tried multipal times to download the latest "adobe flash player", and nothing seems to work. Clicking on the tab downloads the latest, but it doesn't help. How do I intergrate this upgrade into Safari?

I cannot understand why this should be so difficult to do on my iMac.

If you're sure you've installed the latest version of Flash, take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. After each step, relaunch Safari and test. For a "missing plug-in" error, start with Step 4.

1. If you're getting a "blocked plug-in" error, then from the menu bar select

 ▹ System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player Advanced

and click Check Now. Quit and relaunch your browser.

2. Triple-click the line below to select it:

/Library/Internet Plug-Ins

Right-click or control-click the highlighted text and select

Services ▹ Open

from the contextual menu. A folder should open. Delete the following item, or anything with a similar name, if present:

Flash Player (failing).plugin

You may be prompted for your login password.

3. Re-download and reinstall Flash. Download it from this page:

Never download a Flash update from anywhere else.

4. If you get a " missing plug-in" error, select

Safari Preferences... Security

from the Safari menu bar and check the box marked Enable plug-ins.

5. Select

Safari Preferences... Extensions

from the Safari menu bar. If any extensions are installed, disable them.

6. In the Safari preference window, select

Privacy Remove All Website Data

Close the window. Then select

 ▹ System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player Advanced

and click Delete All. Close the preference pane.

Thank you Linc Davis & Klaus1 for your help, but it still doesn't work. I now have the "missing plug-in" error, and would guess my original Adobe Flash Player is now gone.

Apologies if I sound frustrated, but Apple this should be a simple update. Why can't you work things out with Adobe to make it an automatic renewal for your customers?

x2, same problem. "You say you've downloaded it, but did you actually run the installer?" I think I did. I ran something after I downloaded Flash Player (for the 49th time). Please, where can I find the installation file, in case I've missed this step.

In my Applications/Adobe/Flash Player folder, I have a file called "airappinstaller" (I'm using a MacBook Air, if that means anything). There is no extension and no application associated with double-clicking it.

Under [apple]/System Preferences/Other, I only have "Flip4Mac WMV". Flash Player doesn't appear anywhere on the System Preferences page.

Flash Player also does not appear in Safari/Help/Installed Plug-ins, although there is something there called "Shockwave Flash". No clue what that is. In my defense, my teenager used to use this computer too, so I have heaps of stuff on here that mean nothing to me.

I happened to be at a mall with an Apple store today, so popped in to see if they could fix my problem with Flash Player. The guy at the Genius counter did just what I did - he downloaded a fresh copy from Adobe. However, in his blessed hands, the programme automatically launched into Installation mode. Never did that for me. So, of course, it worked perfectly and I no longer see "Blocked Plug-in" in half of the sites I visit.

The solution? Take to a danged professional.

This is what you must do:

1. Open safari and log in into http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/

2. Download and install firefox.

3. Now go back to Adobe's Flash Update page http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/?promoid=JZEFT and dl the latest update for your OSX.

4. Follow the onscreen instructions to install Flash.

5. When finished, launch Firefox.

Done! now you can watch all internet flash content with no problem at all!

Note Firefox also has the "allow outdated plug-in to run" onscreen option. If for any reason you load a page with flash content and you receive the "out of date" or blocked plug in message, you just need to click over that content and the option to "play it anyway" will show up.
