Q: I have trouble downloading applications because of "low storage"

When I go to download an app it says I do not have enough storage. I've deleted practically everything I don't use a lotto make room. I restarted the device by switching all the way off and vice versa.

I have 1GB free space. The usage tells me I'm using 5.4GB.

It's an 8GB 4th generation.

I calculated the bytes of all my apps and it only gave me 3.056GB

The usage says I consume 5.4GB.

Another point is that it is 8GB (the device) and it only lets me use 6.4GB...

So if this is how it should be....shouldn't I have 4.944GB?

iPod touch, iOS 6.1.3

To download and install an app the iPod needs storage available equal to about three times the file download size.

If you sync from your iTunes library less storage available is required.

    Does the app/iPod meet this?

An 8 GB iPod only has 6.4 GB available to the user the difference from 8G is taken up by the iOS and of how GB is calculated and used.

How Mac OS X and iOS report storage capacity

Connect the iPod to your computer and look at the storage used by the various categories as shown in the colored bargarph in iTunes.

If the "other" is larger than about 1 1/2 GB that usually indicates that the "other" includes corrupted files.  Usually restoring from backup eliminated the corrupted files. However, sometimes restoring to factory settings/new iPod is required.

    To restore from backup see:
