How do I remove my cell phone from a ipod that was given to my child?

My son has an ipod that was set up with my wife's cell phone number and e-mail address. Everytime one of his friends facetime's him, it shows up on my wife's cell phone. How do I remove the cell number?

- Go to Settings>Messages>Send and Receive and uncheck the phone number.

- If that does not work try on the iPhone going to Settings>Messages>Send and Receive and sign out of the Apple ID. The do the same on the iPod. After a while sign in with the Apple ID. After it is signed in, it can take a while sign back in on the iPhone.

- If that doe not work, create a new Apple ID and use that on the iPod for Settings>Messages>Send and Receive. You may also want to use that for Settings>FaceTime.
