when adding calendar events on iphone 5 they do not sync over to outlook 2010, but when added on outlook they do sync over to iphone. HELP!

I have run into an issue that seems to be occurring all the time, for an iphone 5, when adding calendar events on the phone they don't seem to sync over to my outlook? I have tried multiple troubleshoot options with no luck. any help on what the cause of the problem might be?
iPhone 5, iOS 6.1.2
