nik collection plug-ins are causing aperture to crash. Please help!

Hi everyone, I am running Aperture 3.4.3 and a while back bought Nik Silver Effex 2.0.

A couple of days ago Google emailed me offering the complete Nik Collection for free.

I upgraded but since then everything has been messed up. The plug-ins all appear in aperture but when I try to load them they either fail to load or cause aperture to crash.

I have contacted Nik/Google but all of their suggestions so far have been to no avail.

Please help as I use silver effex professionally and have a job coming up soon that needs black and white edits!

I am desperate here so any help is appreciated.

From memory the items on the log in were dropbox, monitor, epson low ink reminder and something else. i have disabled and hidden these items.

It might help to know, what exactly you have installed, that is not a standard Mac program.

There is a neat little tool (an AppleScript) called "EtreCheck" that will list all kernel extensions and other installations, that are known as potentially problematic. The tool is free, you can download it here:

http://mac.softpedia.com/get/System-Utilities/EtreCheck.shtml

Just download it, run it from your main account, and if it turns up something unexpected, post it here.

I sure did, this was the first fix Nik suggested to me.

EtreCheck would show duplicate fonts, if there were duplicate fonts.

If I look at the list of lunch items that you have installed, my first suspect would be

[loaded] com.rim.BBAlbumArtCacher.plist

[loaded] com.rim.BBLaunchAgent.plist

What is it that you have installed from "rim" software? BBAbumArt Cacher? Is the program that is launching these launch agents a Mt. Lion compatible version?

Added: I think BBAlbumArtCacher is launched by the Blackberry Desktop. Is that a recent install? If yes, do you still have the installer disk with the uninstaller, so that you could try to remove for a check?

Mar 31, 2013 9:14 AM in response to subseasniper

Okay, deleted the above files and ran etrecheck again

Since you removed files from the libraries, restart your computer, if you have not done so.

Open a Terminal window and type:

launchctl unload -w /Library/LaunchAgents/com.rim.BBAlbumArtCacher.plist

launchctl unload -w /Library/LaunchAgents/com.rim.BBLaunchAgent.plist

That should remove the Launch agents, that I still see.

Then restart the system again and see, if this will help Viveza.

But try to google for documentation for your Blackberry. There must have been an installer running, that installed the Desktop software. And the media containing the installer must also have an uninstaller. If the installed software should be really problematic, there is probably an updated version available by now. You will want to be able to sync your phone.

Tried the terminal entry as suggested, viveza still causing aperture to crash. Here is etrecheck

There is still the BlackBerry kernel extension installed. It is probably installed in

in your System Library

Your MacintoshHD > System > Library > Extensions

And the Launch Agents are in

Your MacintoshHD > System > Library > LaunchAgents

Your MacintoshHD > System > Library > LaunchDaemons

But I have not much experience with uninstalling Kernel Extensions. It would be much safer to wait for Frank to come back to this thread.

Hey guys,

still no joy. I needed to do some editing so I completely uninstalled the collection from my macbook and re-installed my physical copy of silver efex pro 2. Works perfect, unfortunately I have lost all my presets but at this point I consider this a victory.

Any idea if it possible to find the presets or will they have disappeared when I uninstalled the nik collection?

nik collection plug-ins are causing aperture to crash. Please help!
