Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion) and 10.8 (Mountain Lion) consumer version licenses permit running them in a virtual machine on a Macintosh computer. Mac OS X 10.6 Server (Snow Leopard Server) allowed running in a virtual machine.
All other versions of Mac OS X required running directly on real Macintosh hardware.
VMware honored those licenses.
the maximum OS on your iBook is Leopard (if you have the latest iBook). The only OSX that you can run in Parallels or VMware is 10.6 Snow Leopard.
But to do that you have to run the VM in Lion or Mountain Lion.
So you cannot run any OSX in VMware, since your iBook is not compatible with (mountain) Lion.

You are prepetuating the common Urban Myth that the Snow Leopard client EULA prohibits its virtualization in Lion or Mt. Lion on a Mac.
This myth has been largely debunked over the last 18 months; as noted by fewer and fewer members of this forum repeating it.
In any event, Apple acknowledged the end of the debate recently when it began to offer by telephone orders only from its Apple Store, Snow Leopard Server at the same exact price as Snow Leopard client - $19.99 + sales tax & shipping.
