Column A and Row 1 partially hidden.

When I select a table and then click on a cell in that table, the column and row bars appear covering part of column A and row 1. If column A is narrow, it dissapears completely. I have to use the slider bars to position cell A1 so I can see all of it. I don't see this mentioned by anyone else or it happening in tutorials for Numbers. Any enlightenment for me?
