Imac A1200 24" Kernel Attack because of deleted launchd file

I accidently deleted launchd file from my imac A1200 now I am getting a kernel attack that I can not get past. I am guessing that was a horrible thing to do.. Is there anyway to get past this? I do not have any software disks or anything. This is a used computer I got from a computer recycler. I do not think the file is permanelty deleted, can anyone help me get past this thing and try to retrieve the computer back!?

iMac, Mac OS X (10.4.8), I am pretty sure is is 10.4.8

Hello,

Tough without the Install disc, but some things to try...

Does it boot to Single User Mode, CMD+s keys at bootup, if so try...

/sbin/fsck -fy

Repeat until it shows no errors fixed.

(Space between fsck AND -fy important).

Resolve startup issues and perform disk maintenance with Disk Utility and fsck...

If it still doesn't boot try Safe mode...

Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup)

If not there still may be a chance in Single User mode to move it back from the trash.

Or, do you have another Mac with Firewire around?

Hi, thank you so very much for responding. I have a macbook pro but no firewire on it. I am going to try singe user mode, I did the safe boot and it did not do anything. I would figure there would be a way to reverse it from the trash or boot to a bios and try to go back in time! If all else fails I will have to get a installation disk of the OS right? Also i noticed i do not have a command button. Would it be control ? Thank you very much!!! 🙂

After trying the single user mode keys I did get it to a different screen (black background with white words) after trying a couple times. But it will not let me type for some reason. I feel I am getting closer!!

If I do find someone with a mac with firewire how can that help? The single user mode is not reading my keyboard as far as I know.

If using a Windows KB Windows key normally = CMD on Macs.

It makes the Mac n t mode look like an expensive FW drive, where Repairs may be possible & such.

Your cheapes route would be to getb 10.6 if your Mac meets the requirements...

Hi, I work at a computer recycle place as a computer tech and e bay lister. I called one of our friends, who seems to be a computer pro and he said he has software and programs and he will reinstall it all on my computer next week. I am hoping it is like new once is all said and done! Now I just got to cancel this program I ordered offline for 40 bucks to clean my pc out!!
