I have just plugged in a new hard drive I have brought from a store I go to find out how much memory I have on it and I notice I only have reading privileges. How do I change that?

I have just plugged in a new hard drive I have brought from a store I go to find out how much memory I have on it and I notice I only have reading privileges. How do I change that?

Can Any one help me? It was ariginaly pluged into a windows computer and this mac is a school computer.

MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2), school computer

Open the Disk Utility in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder and reformat it as MS-DOS if you need to access it from Windows and Mac OS Extended (Journaled) if you don't.
