playback stutters

seems anything shot on my canon t3i and transferred to computer, stutters.

Ive tried playing it from the sd card directly and also moving the file to the hard drive... still stutters.

it plays back fine in the camera, so I know the recording was ok.

I play it back on the G5mac in quicktime and it stutters. Ive tried dropping it on the timeline in FCP6, still stutters.

took the card to the camera store. they played it back on Their mac and it works fine.

is there a certain codec I need to playback a file from an SD card?

OTHER videos like things Ive made before, they playback fine on my machine.

G5 Power Mac, Mac OS X (10.4.11), 2x 2.6Ghz DCPs, 8GB Ram, 4+TB storage Acer X243W

BD where would I find what codec it is?

Michael -- it does! If I convert it all to ProRes, it works but I only converted 3 min of it and took 15-20 min.

ya really had it with this machine. Ive tried like 4 browsers, they all lag, crash, some do some things but have to use another for other things,

compressor gets the beach ball.. its all really frusterating.

even though I've

  • upgraged ram to 8G as much as it will hold
  • upgraded the hard drives - lots of space avaialbe
  • optimized everything with Disk Warrior

Not sure whether to go with a used Intel MacPro --- looking at one with 16gb ram for 800.00

or to go back to PC and Premiere Pro -- which is what I started on some 15 years ago.

No matter what I do to my Grandmother's Model-T Ford:

• Put on chrome wheels

• Wash and wax it

• Install updated spark plugs.. etc.

It still is not approporiate to drive it on today's modern Expressways!

My advice is: go see what the people over at Wise Guys Productions are doing; they seem to be all over this problem! 😁 😁

No, I am saying that no matter how much you update your old G5 PowerMac, that machine is not going to cut it!

As to which modern day mac is best for your needs, I suggest that you discuss this issue with mac users who edit professionally and those over on the Ken Stone website (specifically the thread linked above), seem to be all over this issue for you!
