Can't scan in color from HP8600

I can no longer scan in color from my HPOfficeJet Pro 8600 printer to my MAC OSX 10.7.5. It used to work, but no longer does. Have tried the usual fixes (altering settings) and checking for software updates (the latest from HP seems to be 3.3.1) but nothing solves the problem so far. HP online support has not been helpful. I'd very much welcome suggestions. Any ideas?

Hi,

Do you scan from HP Scan, Image Capture or maybe from the device front panel itself?

If the issue appear while scanning from the front panel, the default scan workflow configured to scan documents as Black and White. Make sure to change the scan settings to scan documents with color:

1. Open the HP Utility and select your device.

2. From Scan Settings open the "Scan to Computer".

3. Click the Scan Tasks tab.

4. Select the affected shortcut and click on Edit... (or just double-click the shortcut).

5. In the section of Scan from an HP Device click on the blue triangle or the Show Details button to enlarge the menu.

6. From the enlarged menu now open the drop-down menu next to Mode

7. Now select the Color option and then click on OK to save the changes. The next scanned document using this workflow will appear in color.

Unfortunately this doesn't work. Could it be that the latest software update (HP Scan 3) doesn't work with MAC OSX 10.7.5 and HP OfficeJet Pro Plus (NOT e). After the last update I ened up with two HP icons (HP Utility which no longer has a scan link) and a se;perate HP Scan 3 icon. I used to be able to scan in color from the flatbed.

Since editing the scan to computer settings didn't work, the problem is most likely in the scan software itself. The first thing to do would be to make sure there isn't a problem with disk permissions.

  1. Click on Finder.
  2. Click Apps.
  3. Search for and open Disk Utility.
  4. Select the hard drive the OS is installed on.
  5. Select Repair Disk Permissions.
  6. Once it's done, try scanning in color.

If that doesn't work, uinstall and reinstall the printer and software. I'll include the instructions below. Let me know what happens.

Uninstalling the Printer Software

Installing the Printer Software on a Wireless or Wired (Ethernet) Network

Installing the Printer Software in OS X 10.7 Lion for a USB Connection
