Hi Lawarence, I used a USB port directly on to my computer, i've tried multiple reboots as required and I've lost count!!!! But upon seeing older posts relating to such isues, it appears these problems are not new and have been repeating in each iOS upgrade - I was just lucky that I didnt face them earlier....is there anything else that you would like suggesting me to do??

Someone else on a different thread found success by trying all of the ports on the computer; one worked.

Trying a different computer is part of Apple's standard troubleshooting procedure. It's based on the assumption that the problem is on the computer, not the phone. I've never had a problem syncing or backing up in almost 6 years of using an iPhone, so I can only quote other's experience.

The important point if you use a different computer is do not sync; go to iTunes Preferences, Devices tab, and check the box to NOT automatically sync. Then just try to back up. If this fails the problem is most likely in the phone.

Hi Lawrence, I'm in the course of doing the following exercise as per your suggestion:

1. Use another fresh laptop and fresh iTunes to backup my iPhone - the backup was successful without any issues (so, there mustn't be any hardware issue with the iPhone hopefully?)

2. Restoring phone as new iPhone using this fresh iTunes (It's in progress now)

3. Restore from the latest Backup in order to restore all contacts, and other content including apps (I assume I can do that from the backup from my other laptop also???, please confirm)

I would hope that all these Apps crash issues, battery drain issues are all gone after this exercise. Is my understanding right?

This narrows the problem to your computer, but doesn't identify why your computer is not able to back up. Assuming the backup restore succeeds, you will need to connect to your original computer to sync your apps back, or copy your iTunes library to the new computer before syncing with it.

Alternatively, you can sync your music and content using the iTunes and App Store apps directly on the computer it works with.
