Changing filing in Preview.

I've a collection of images built up over the years under 40 or more headings and sometimes I'd like to change how Preview files stuff. Used to be, back in System 10.4 or thereabouts, on opening a page of thumbnails one could drag them into any order you wanted, and that remains true with collections made long ago.

Now everything is filed alphabetically and that's fine, but sometimes I'd really like to order a new Preview window/page by just dragging the thumbnails around. How do I go about doing that?

Thanks . . . Fortes

Open a folder of images with Preview. Now select View > Contact Sheet. You can now drag images around where you want them.

Gosh, thanks, who knew? (Guess one's gotta go right thru all the menus -- but even then? No mention of this in Pogue's Missing Manual, by the way.)

While I'm really glad to know about Contact Sheet, it doesn't of course entirely replace that old-time ability to drag thumbnails around in the Preview folder. Is that entirely gone? If so, it's odd I can still do that with old files.
