My iPad used to show the same iMessages as on my iPhone, and vice versa...and now it doesn't. I don't know whether it was an iOS upgrade that fouled it up or what, but I'd like to restore the convenience of seeing and responding to iMessages on either device. They both send and receive iMessages, but one begun on one device does not appear on the other.

When you go on your ipad to settings, messages, send and receive, are you able to get a checkmark next to your phone number?
No. It offers only my Apple ID, not my iPhone number. The iPhone offers both.
Then everyone who will imessage to your phone number... You guessed it didn't you?
I'm sorry...I don't understand. If my iPad doesn't offer me the iPhone's number, how can I get iMessages addressed to my iPhone to show up on my iPad, and vice versa? My iPad & iPhone used to let me start messages on one device and continue them on the other. Thy no longer do that. How do I restore that capability?
You can easily restore that by unchecking phone number in said place on your phone, problem is nobody is going to be able to imessage to your phone number. Hence everyone who messages to your phone number will use sms. Hence some people's and your bill is going to be higher.
