Did you follow ALL of the instructions in the link I provided? Specifically:

Placing your device into recovery mode

Follow these steps to place your iOS device into recovery mode. If your iOS device is already in recovery mode, you can proceed immediately to step 6.

  1. Disconnect the USB cable from the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
  2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.

If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off, release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.

  3. While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
Note: If you see the screen pictured below, let the device charge for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has some charge, and then start with step 2 again.
    User uploaded file
  4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears you can release the Home button:
    User uploaded file
  5. If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the following "recovery mode" alert:
    User uploaded file
  6. Use iTunes to restore the device.

If you don't see the "Connect to iTunes" screen, try these steps again. If you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen but the device does not appear in iTunes, see this article and its related links.

Hi. I have tried to apply a restore. I uninstalled Itunes from the pc I used to synch my iphone 5. I have tried the above suggestion to unlock a password locked phone( I reinstalled itunes this morning) I have now tried 2 times. The phone remains locked. Is my Apple experience completely ruined? Should I be asking Apple to replace my phone? Its only 10 weeks old.

You have encountered Activation Lock, an antitheft feature of the iPhone. If it is asking for your Apple ID and passcode you will have to remember them or reset them with Apple Account Security by calling Apple. Then go to https://icloud.com/find, log in and delete the phone from Find my iPhone.

If it is asking for someone else's Apple ID you will have to get that person to release Activation Lock. If you cannot do either of these things your phone will never work again. See: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5661 for what the previous owner must do.

You can restore your iPhone to unlock your iPhone.

1. Connect the iPhone to the computer with a USB cable and launch iTunes.

2. If you have a new or erased iPhone, iTunes will prompt you to restore from backup. Otherwise, Control-click on your iPhone under DEVICES in the left menu.

3. Select Restore From Backup. Choose the backup you wish to sync and click the Restore button.

You'd better not forgot iPhone passcode.
