Just installed new RAM modules from PNY - 2x4GB DDR3 PC10666. MacBook Pro will only recognize one of the new RAM modules along with one of the original 2GB modules. Will not boot with both 4GB modules installed. Currently showing 6GB available/installed.

Both modules work with one of the original 2GB; but will not boot with 8GB installed. Anyone recognize this issue?

MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.3), Mid 2010 Model W80253WUATP

Yes - a lot of people who installed PNY memory have issues when installed in a Macbook Pro.

Suggestion - purchase the one that is Apple Certified - Crucial, Mushkin, Kingston (non value), G.Skill, Corsair to name a few.

Stay away from brands not mentioned above. This is what happens when you purchase brands not tested or certified for Apple Macbooks.

Return and exchange for proper RAM - pay the extra $5 - $10 so you won't get issues like these.

Use 1066MHz RAM if your Macbook is 2010 and down, 1333MHz if your Macbook is 2011 and 1600MHz if you have a 2012.

Good luck

Interesting, it says on the packaging that they are Mac Compatible (with the Mac logo) - I purchased them at Best Buy, in store retail purchase. These are 1066MHz, DDR3's, and at least from the packaging, they match the technical specs listed on this Apple Support site for this model of the MacBook Pro - yet, they only work if I use one of the 4GB modules with another 2GB module.

Thank you for your reply, I'll research the suggested brands you've listed above.
