Does the fan of a macbook pro keeps running when i closed the computer?

I pack my mac every night (in a backpack). I never turn it off, I just close it and put it in the backpack. Does the fan keep running even after I close it?

MacBook Pro, iOS 6.1.2, It's a brand new computer. 2 weeks

When a Mac is in sleep, nothing is running, and your Mac consumes the energy that it needs to keep the hard drive turned on, so fans aren't turned on during sleep mode or when you close the computer
