Quicktime Screen Recording Makes Green Screen Video

I sat online with support and found it to be an error in my recorded permissions (back end communications between different applications). To fix it I did the following:

1. Turn off computer
2. Hold Command+R, and press the power button - but don't let go of Command+R
3. Once your computer loads up, you can let go of Command+R
4. Select "Repair Permissions" (or something similar, I can't remember the exact phrasing)
5. Once they've been repaired, restart your computer and try again

If this doesn't work, then you'll want to call Apple Support

I'm having the same green screen problem - I tried downloading the update but it would not install as I don't have any other the other associated apps on my iMac.... any other ideas? I can get sound but the screen playback is green.

I'm getting the Green Screen in QuickTime, iShowU, and iShowU HD. I have the ProApps codec update. 15" MBP Retina. Let me know if anyone has updates and if I figure this out, I'll let you know.

Find it hard to believe this one hasn't been solved definitively.

While this may not be an approved solutions, using the "gfxCardStatus (http://gfx.io)" applicaiton, you can force the MBP to use the internal or "external" graphics controller. By forcing the use of the internal controller, I was able to record my desktop as video.

Note that when using the "external" chip, I was still recording Green.

Worked for me ! Thx Piguy24! After I pressed CMD+R at boot up, I arrived in an interface where I choosed "disk utility". Then I selected my MacOS Partition, and repair the permissions for this partition.

Run repair permissions - Its seems like a ML error where a lot of the audio/visual files in ~/System/Library are given owners when they should be set at 0.

I'd recommend doing it in the recovery partition (Command + R on Startup), unlike what smitchnstu advises. Doing it from the recovery partition is a lot more 'certain' than doing it from Disk Utility. After all, you'd much prefer another doctor do surgery on you, than you do surgury on yourself :-).

...That, and doing it in Disk Utlity did not fix the problem for me!

Initially it didn't work then I found out gfxCardStatus won't let me switch to integrated only when QuickTime is open. Then I quit QuickTime and tried again, switched to integrated only, (waited for a few seconds for it to actually switch), then started recording and worked great!

I have a brand new Mac Laptop (RETINA SCREEN) with solid state hard drive.

This Green screen happens all the time. Then I have to log out and log back in and it's fixed.

THIS IS THE MOST ANNOYING THING OF ALL TIME.

Can nobody fix this? I detest having to log out and log in every time I want to make a screencast using iShowU or Quicktime.

As I already said, use gfxCardStatus form gfx.io. Make sure you aren't running QuickTime or any other applicaitons that enable the external graphics chip. The dropdown menu will tell you if any are running, so you can qut them.

I use it all the time when I make screencasts.

Another thing to watch out for: are you on battery? or plugged into a power source?

I was having the same "green video" problem but I found that it went away when I was plugged in to a power source. (No permissions repair required...)

I just want to add to this thread because I spent 2 hours trying to solve this on my Mac. For me it had nothing to do with updates or codecs, it was that I was remotely accessing my Mac through TeamViewer and my Mac's monitor was off. This prevented the screen from recording properly. Just turned on the monitor and then it worked fine - stupid thing, but if you don't know you can spend hours pulling your hair out.

Has anyone figured out how to RESTORE the original video of the quicktime recording that went to green screen? My recording looked normal while I was creating it, then when I saved it, it went to green screen. This was a VERY IMPORTANT VIDEO. It was a recording of a FaceTime lesson and I need the video to remember what I did.

I am having this issue too. MBPretina, ML, etc.

I tried installing the pro Codecs bit it wouldnt let me...(see screenshot)
