Quicktime Screen Recording Makes Green Screen Video

Here's what I do:

1. Open Quicktime Player (v10.2)

2. Select File->New Screen Recording

3. Click the record button

4. Click the screen one more time to record full screen

5. Record for 10-20 seconds then press stop

THE PROBLEM: The resulting video is a blank green screen. Nothing but green. Even after exporting it to my desktop, I open the file to view it and it is still green.

This is my first time using this utility, so perhaps I did something wrong? Any help is much appreciated!

MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012), OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.3)

Nevermind, I do not have this problem anymore. I installed an automatic pro apps update that I hadn't noticed before and restarted my computer and it works fine now.

Try this update, I think it is the one I downloaded: http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1396

Then restart your computer, I hope it works for you!

I'm having the same green screen problem - I tried downloading the update but it would not install as I don't have any other the other associated apps on my iMac.... any other ideas? I can get sound but the screen playback is green.

I'm sorry I don't have any concrete answers for you. I would guess that you could try searching for any recent QuickTime updates on support.apple.com.

I am having this issue too. MBPretina, ML, etc.

I tried installing the pro Codecs bit it wouldnt let me...(see screenshot)

ANNOYING!

I was having this issue. I was able to solve it by unplugging my second monitor and changing my screen displays caling to the "More room" (1920 x 1080) setting.

vjskulpture - thats the same error I got...

jakelear - I only have the iMac - no second monitor ... will try screen diplay settings...

nope... changing display settings doesn't make a difference

I'm having the exact same issue on my 15" retina MBP.

Quicktime screen capture just records green. I'm glad I'm not the only one having this error!

I sat online with support and found it to be an error in my recorded permissions (back end communications between different applications). To fix it I did the following:

Turn off computer
Hold Command+R, and press the power button - but don't let go of Command+R
Once your computer loads up, you can let go of Command+R
Select "Repair Permissions" (or something similar, I can't remember the exact phrasing)
Once they've been repaired, restart your computer and try again

If this doesn't work, then you'll want to call Apple Support

I'm getting the Green Screen in QuickTime, iShowU, and iShowU HD. I have the ProApps codec update. 15" MBP Retina. Let me know if anyone has updates and if I figure this out, I'll let you know.

Find it hard to believe this one hasn't been solved definitively.

While this may not be an approved solutions, using the "gfxCardStatus (http://gfx.io)" applicaiton, you can force the MBP to use the internal or "external" graphics controller. By forcing the use of the internal controller, I was able to record my desktop as video.

Note that when using the "external" chip, I was still recording Green.
