I just bought a game off App Store and returned it due to lack of 3D support. VERY GOOD customer service though. This game supports "screen resolution" on all platforms (Microsoft, XBox, Playstation, etc) except Apple (my model keep in mind, which is recent, and the game is older - my 3D covers all requirements if used but simply doesn't get used).

I am guessing no support of DirectX / HAL in Apple's development kit.

I see Apple App Store has very poor support for both new and old DirectX games - which leads me to believe that porting them is a difficulty (that who releases game must either support many apple hardwares and or do backward flips porting DirectX code to work on a "very different OS").

I'm then told indirectly "Buy a copy of Microsoft Windows", reboot into WIN10, then your 3D will work. Obviously I think that 3D support should not mean "use a different OS", I think 3D support SHOULD MEAN: this OS will provide what applications released on many platforms ARE LOOKING FOR / NEED to get their job done quickly and efficiently (one also has to keep in mind that 3D cards are partly to blame - for releasing many issues in silicon that HAL cannot cannot begin to cover, meaning apps still may need hacks to get things working for a given video card in a computer).

This should not happen. Microsoft steals allot of source and ideas: always has. Apple should not feel any reservation making a HAL interface for compatibility that is program-code compatible with DirectX program code. #1 so it's own programs get abstracted (supported) when hardware changes and #2 so critical infrastructure 3D programs (ie, AutoCAD) are not sleeping on releasing current versions for Apple.

Thank you

Correct. You can try using applications like WineBottler or CrossOver in order to run your games in OS X, but don't expect the same performance. Furthermore, it's possible that they don't work, but you don't lose anything trying WineBottler.

In order to play games, Boot Camp is the best option, but try using WineBottler or CrossOver first

So I don't know how to get it to work myself but I do know of at least 1 game out there that uses directx and that someone did the code to make it capable of working on mac. If your curious the game is Path of Exile, you will find the mac download for the game in the forums, here is the link if you want to check it out http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/48708 i know this is a year after the initial post of this question but it could be helpful.
