So I was upgrading to ios 6.1 on iPhone 4s the upgrade crashed told me to connect to iTunes. iTunes said to restore at the end of restore the restore stops and iTunes gives me the -1 error. Any way to fix this error

Try to Restore iPhone on another computer. If still Error -1, this is serious hardware problem of the baseband chip of iPhone. If there is Warranty or AppleCare make Genius reservation or set up service and send or take to Apple for resolution.

No, this cannot be done. Use the iPhone 4 as your main phone until you get new iPhone.

Yes, sounds like hardware trouble. I had the same problem trying to restore a dead iPad. I reviewed the error log after the multiple failed restores and it proved that the baseband chip was not communicating at all. Here is the video on youtube. Note the log output at the end.
